We are focused on stretching the size of our community by including more potential and dedicated volunteers. Our community organises events and programs to let people understand the importance of water bodies in the region. What We Do

Gold Coast Waterwatch is a dedicated and devoted community that spends days and months tirelessly looking after and monitoring the condition of waterways on the Gold Coast area. Our community consists of local scientists who test and monitor constantly to ensure that we all have good quality water ways that are not toxic. The waterways we keep an eye on include creek, lake, pond, dam, wetland, estuary and lagoon. Our team inspects the quality of the water and we see if the water needs to be treated and made fresh again as water is one of the most important things in this world and should be protected.
Our members learn about the condition of the waterways through environmental
education. They participate in various projects and follow different methods to
protect, restore or rehabilitate the health of our lakes, ponds, etc.
Till now, we have conducted various waterways events and programs across Queensland. Our surveys are popular among people who are concerned about the nature. Our volunteers go through rope services to help volunteers understand basic concept of waterwatch. For more details, give us a call today.

RECENT Project

Our community members work on various Waterwatch projects simultaneously and try their level best to complete them in the best possible manner. These projects reveal some vital finding and spread awareness.
Common Wetland Plants
In our latest project, our community worked on the common wetland plants that are found in the Gold Coast region. These plants play a pivotal role in maintain the quality of the water in this area and minimise the level of pollution. These plants also help keep the surroundings and the area clean and green and makes the environment look more beautiful and charming.
Litter Management
One of our major concerns is the amount of litter that is turning up in waterways across the Gold Coast. To reduce this litter, we have started a litter management campaign that focuses on the negative impacts of litter and how we can change that. This has helped spread awareness among residents of the Gold Coast on how to manage their litter.
Gold Coast Waterways
In this project, we did in-depth research on the major and minor waterways on the Gold Coast and then prepared a list of the overall pollution levels of each waterway. In our reports, we looked at how this pollution was affecting the water quality and how it was destroying the ecosystem for the marine animals in the waterways as well.
Waterwatch Methods
In one of the recent projects, we have also focus on the latest methods that should be used for the Waterwatch. It will help you give more accurate and relevant results. We have shared our finding with other communities.

We started this community a few years back, and since then, we have formed partnerships with other communities, government, and other institutions. It has helped us to sustainably address problems that affect the water quality and overall health of the Gold Coast waterways. Our Approach

We follow a very professionals approach when it comes to Waterwatch. All follow all the modern method and equipment to test the quality of the water. We also train all our volunteers regarding the factors they need to consider while assessing the site. We also provide sufficient information about field safety, chemical safety, sample collection, sample preservation, storage and so on. We organised various events so that we can educate everyone about all the aspects of the Waterwatch in the Gold Coast region. Our community makes every possible effort to ensure that all the volunteers have the right knowledge and tools. Our volunteers work hard and efficiently to keep a check on all the waterways and make sure that everything runs smoothly. They have and continue to be a big help to our organisation and we appreciate all their efforts and help in making our clear waterway dreams come true.

Understanding the Waterwatch
We organised this event from time to time for the people who are interested in joining the Waterwatch programs. In this event, we explain the overall concept, the methods and programs include in it. We focus on the Waterwatch theoretically as well as practically.

Measuring Your Site
When it comes to water watch, assessing the site is the most important thing. In this event, our experts explained how to draw a bird’s eye view map, photopoints of your site worksheet, get topographic maps, aerial photographs, prepare a catchments worksheet and so on.

The Aquatic Zone
We pay attention to understanding the aquatic zone. It includes gathering information about the wetland plants and their types, habitats, freshwater plant, animal, fish species, etc. It also includes the preparation of a chart of waterbird and examining all these factors in detail.

Human Impacts on Waterways
The use of catchment by humans has modified the environment. This has made an impact on the quality as well as the quantity of the flow of the water. We focus on the human impact on waterways and how it is affecting native vegetation, animal life and soils.

Water Bug Survey
Water bugs, also know as macroinvertebrates are small creatures that are visible with the naked eye. Different types of water bugs have different tolerances level to pollution, so they can indicate the overall health of the waterway. A healthy waterway has an extensive variety of water bugs.
