Getting Involved in Gold Coast Waterwatch

There are a range of activities we can all undertake to help protect our local waterways. These activities can range from simple actions to making a lasting commitment to Waterwatch on the Gold Coast.

Simple Actions -
Making a difference
Intermediate Actions - Spreading the Word Very Committed -
Finding Solutions
Collect pet droppings before they are washed into the waterways. Join a local community or catchment group. Monitor the environment surrounding your local waterway.
Wash cars on the grass and sweep driveways and paths to reduce the amount of chemicals and nutrients being washed into the waterways. Discuss water quality and environmental issues with friends and neighbours. Become involved in regular water quality sampling in your catchment.
Put litter and rubbish in the bin. Garden waste and prunnings should never be thrown over the fence. This rubbish causes weed outbreaks and harms water quality. Visit the Waterwatch website, contact the Waterwatch Coordinator or follow some links from the website to gain more information. Record water quality results and environmental observations to add to the local, state and federal water quality databases.

If you are interested in becoming a Gold Coast Waterwatcher and undertaking regular testing of water quality in your catchment - contact the Waterwatch Coordinator for more information.

For more information on tests and monitoring programs, you could also visit the Gold Coast Waterwatch tests page.
