The Gold Coast Waterwatch program encourages community members to become involved in monitoring local waterways. Community monitoring of waterways provides valuable information for credible environmental management as well as providing an opportunity for the community to be involved in local environmental issues. A catchment is the area where all rain that falls is drained to a single point. It is a basin that collects and transports water. Within Gold Coast City there are 11 major catchments. The catchment map pages provide maps and information on these catchments. A number of Gold Coast Waterwatch monitoring groups are operating in these catchments. These groups are collecting water quality data which supplements data collected by other agencies like the Gold Coast City Council. Gold Coast City Council coordinates more than 100 additional water quality test sites through out the Gold Coast's creek, river, canal and beach front systems. For existing Gold Coast Waterwatch monitoring groups, an online data entry form is available here.
